Ladybird is a skilled seamstress who enjoys creating custom clothing and home décor items that utilize her love of color, texture, natural fibers, vintage and salvaged materials. She has spent over 6 years in the fashion retail world as a style and wardrobe consultant for several high-end independent boutiques, in addition to spending several years as a technician in the theatrical costume industry. In recent years, she has sewn custom suits and other fine tailored garments for clients worldwide. Currently, she is focused on providing emerging independent designers with education, resources, and skilled technical assistance throughout the entire process of developing and producing a fashion line. In conjunction, she is building a collaborative network of apparel and textile professionals worldwide who share her vision for sustaining local small scale sewing manufacturing skills while changing the face of fashion by promoting principles of slow fashion, heirloom artisan quality, ethics, sustainability, and transparency in the global fashion supply chain. Ladybird (Jessica Seamon Montoya) grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina, studied costuming and the arts at the College of Charleston in South Carolina, and now resides in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado where she spends her days sewing and creating in her home studio, surrounded by an environment filled with natural and historical beauty. Old architecture and antique treasures have long been a part of her milieu, from the colonial-era buildings and a university founded in 1770 in Charleston, SC, to Victorian mountain towns founded after the 1859 Colorado Gold Rush and subsequent mining ruins scattered on the mountainsides that now surround her in Idaho Springs, CO. |
